Common Law Admission Test (CLAT)

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a pivotal national-level entrance examination for aspiring law students in India. Administered by the Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs), CLAT facilitates admissions into undergraduate and postgraduate law programs across 22 NLUs and various esteemed private law institutions.

Eligibility Criteria: Candidates must have successfully completed Class 12 or an equivalent examination from a recognized board. A minimum of 45% marks is required for General/OBC/PwD categories, while SC/ST categories require a minimum of 40%. There is no upper age limit for eligibility.

Exam Pattern: The UG CLAT is an offline, pen-and-paper based entrance exam conducted over 2 hours. It comprises 150 multiple-choice questions distributed across five sections: English Language, Current Affairs (including General Knowledge), Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Techniques. Each correct answer carries one mark, while an incorrect answer attracts a penalty of 0.25 marks..

Syllabus and Preparation: The UG CLAT assesses English Language (comprehension, vocabulary, grammar), Current Affairs (news, culture, international affairs), Legal Reasoning (legal matters, public policy), Logical Reasoning (argument analysis), and Quantitative Techniques (basic math, data interpretation).

Preparation Tips: To effectively prepare for the UG CLAT, create a structured study schedule, allocating dedicated time slots for each section. Consistent practice is crucial, including solving previous years' question papers and taking mock tests to enhance accuracy and speed. Stay updated on current affairs by reading newspapers like The Hindu, The Indian Express, and The Times of India. Regular analysis of your performance will help identify areas for improvement and guide your study efforts.
